Sunny Optometry opened its doors in 1985 with a simple idea: that eye care should be thorough, personal and a genuine pleasure. Decades later, we remain independent and locally owned, which means every decision we make is about our patients, not a corporate playbook.

Over the years we have grown alongside our community, investing in advanced diagnostic technology and a dedicated dry eye center, while holding on to the unhurried, attentive care that has defined us from the start.

Our bright boutique on 4th Street in downtown Santa Monica is where exceptional eye care meets a curated eyewear experience. Frames from designers such as Lindberg, Oliver Peoples, Barton Perreira and Masunaga line the walls, and our lenses are handcrafted in Los Angeles.

It is a place to take your time, try things on, and leave seeing and looking your best.

Our doctors are glaucoma-certified therapeutic optometrists, each bringing distinct training and interests to a shared commitment: making sure every patient understands their eyes and leaves with a plan that fits their life.

• Dr. Alice Sun: trained at the New England College of Optometry, with interests in eye disease, specialty contact lenses, pediatrics, and pre and post-operative care
• Dr. Daniel Sjolund: trained at the New England College of Optometry, skilled in low vision, pediatrics, and LASIK and cataract co-management
• Dr. Kathleen Phan: trained at the Southern California College of Optometry, with residency training in ocular disease and primary eye care
• Dr. Matthew Thornton: trained at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, with clinical rotations in pediatrics, specialty contact lenses, low vision and ocular disease
